Five Factors Students Consider When Choosing Online Courses

“Study without desire spoils the memory, and it retains nothing that it takes in.”

-Leonardo da Vinci

When making the decision to continue education, students want to be sure that they are making the right choice for themselves. They will be researching the courses they want to take, set long-term goals, and realistic lifestyle changes. Student will be looking for a class size that provides them with a setting that allows them to participate at their own pace.

Factors for students in having a successful online experience:

Research:

Students are going to research the retention, success, and default rates of the courses they are looking to join.

Curriculum:

Students are looking to find the curriculum that best suits what they are trying to accomplish.

Teacher/Faculty Participation:

Students are looking for guidance and interaction from the educator. Accessibility is vital to online courses.

Interaction:

Teachers and faculty should be more accessible than traditional classroom settings. Shy students will feel less anxious and will have the ability to learn with minimal stress.

Costs:

What the student can get out of an online course is the most important factor to them. While there will be a monetary cost, the student’s opportunity costs should be just as important when making a decision to continue your education.
